What does an independentista, lesbian Puerto Rican woman has to offer to her new elected position as an Alderperson of the 26th Ward of Chicago? In our 4th episode of the season, Diaspórica brings the first diaspora politician to the podcast currently in office, Jessie Fuentes. She discusses everything related to Puerto Rico, from the experience of being part of the diaspora and the needs of the Puerto Rican community in Chicago to the political issues impacting Puerto Rico. As a first time lesbian woman occupying this position, she aspires to represent the LGBTTQA+ community, women and the Puerto Rican community in Chicago. She explains her work agenda including fighting poverty, displacement and creating opportunities for young people. She talks about the importance of Puerto Ricans as a voting bloc in the US in order to put pressure on issues related to Puerto Rico. And, finally, she gave us her take on the status of Puerto Rico as an independentista.
